Strength for the Waiting
Scripture
Why do you say, Jacob, and you speak, Israel, “My way is hidden from Yahweh, and my judgment is passed over by my God?” Have you not known, or have you not heard? Yahweh is the God of eternity, the creator of the ends of the earth! He is not faint, and he does not grow weary! There is no searching his understanding. He gives power to the weary, and he increases power for the powerless. Even young people will be faint and grow weary, and the young will stumble, exhausted. But those who wait for Yahweh shall renew their strength. They shall go up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not grow weary; they shall walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:27–31
Reflection
Isaiah speaks to people who feel unseen and worn down. The passage does not shame their exhaustion; it answers it with the assurance that God does not grow weary and understands the limits of human strength. Waiting, in this vision, is not passive resignation. It is a posture of hope when we cannot force the future to arrive on our timetable. Some waits are small: for a reply, a decision, or a difficult day to end. Others hold much more: recovery, reconciliation, safety, or relief from a burden that has lasted too long. Simple assurances can sound thin when suffering is real. Isaiah's promise is not that every circumstance changes immediately, but that our present weakness is not proof that God has abandoned us. We are permitted to ask for help and to receive strength through community, rest, and practical care. Jesus knows human weariness and meets people who have little left to give. Following him does not mean pretending to be inexhaustible. It means bringing our limits into God's care and refusing to measure our faith by how much hardship we can endure alone. If today you can take only one small step, that step still matters. Hope can carry us, and others can help carry us too.
Prayer
God who never tires of caring, meet those who feel unseen or depleted. Give us patience for the waiting, help for today's needs, and grace to receive support from one another.
Today's Question
Where do you need to accept help or rest instead of demanding more from yourself?
