Wait for the Lord
Scripture
Surely I believe that I will see the goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living. Wait for Yahweh. Be strong and let your heart show strength, and wait for Yahweh.
Psalm 27:13-14
Reflection
Waiting is one of the hardest disciplines of faith. We would rather do almost anything than wait. David ends Psalm 27 not with a dramatic rescue but with a command to himself: "Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD." He says it twice, like a man steadying his own trembling resolve. Notice that biblical waiting is not passive resignation. It takes strength and courage. It is the active, costly refusal to grasp at our own solutions when God's timing seems unbearably slow. David waits because he believes something: "I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living." His waiting is anchored in expectation. He is confident he will yet see God's goodness — not only in some distant heaven, but here, in the land of the living. Much of our impatience comes from quietly doubting that God's goodness is actually coming. If we believed it were truly on its way, we could wait with far more peace. Faith does not remove the waiting, but it fills the waiting with hope. Whatever you are waiting on today — healing, provision, an answer, a changed heart — God invites you to the same steadying words. Be strong. Take courage. Wait for the Lord. His goodness is not a maybe; it is a promise still on its way.
Prayer
Lord, waiting is hard, and I so often try to force what only you can give in your time. Strengthen my heart and give me courage to wait for you. Help me to believe that I will yet see your goodness.
Today's Question
What are you waiting on, and how can you wait with active hope rather than anxious striving?
