Why Does God Allow Suffering? A Serious Answer
The problem of evil is real. Don't let anyone dismiss it.
If God is all-powerful and all-loving, why is there unspeakable suffering? This isn't just a philosophical puzzle — it's personal. People have lost children, survived wars, endured abuse. They're not asking an academic question.
The Christian answer isn't "we don't know." It's more nuanced and, I'd argue, more honest than that.
Free will matters. A world in which love is forced is not a world with love at all. God's apparent inaction in moments of horror is not indifference — it's the cost of a reality where humans are genuinely free.
But there's more: the cross itself is God's answer to suffering. Not an explanation from a distance, but entrance into it. The resurrection isn't a denial of Good Friday — it's its vindication.
I don't pretend this resolves every tear. But I do think it's the most honest framework we have.
